Cheap Gas!

So, we did this last month just thinking it was a good deal…  As it is now time to renew for the last month this promotion is running, I decided to break it down to see if its really worth it.  Well, it is!  And we’re saving a bunch on GAS!

Heres how it works:

If you buy a $300 gift card at Smith’s Marketplace, they automatically load the card with $330 (thats $30 bucks they are just giving you right there!).   And here is how my killer math skills break that down even further…

 SMITH’S Gift Card
 CASH

$$ in GAS$330.00 $300.00
Price Per GAL$4.15 $3.77*

Total Gallons79.52 79.52

In order to get the same amount of gas (in gallons), we would have to get gas at $3.77 per gallon – GOOD LUCK! THATS A WHOPPING $0.38 OFF PER GALLON!  Now, if you’re driving around town trying to find the cheapest place, Smith’s will be a good $0.10 more than everywhere else – This is because of their main promotion giving you $0.05 to $0.15 off per gallon if you buy all your groceries there too.

This all means that just for spending your $300 with them, you also get your first fill-up at $0.15 off the listed price per gallon (on TOP of the great deal above).  Feel free to verify my math skills, but I think you’ll find this a great deal if you have a Smith’s near you.

P.S. – Smith’s is only continuing this deal until the end of July – so stock up!

Props to my penny-pinchin’ wife!!  ;)

I totally trust your awesome math skills! Gotta check this out. Gas is a killer!

My family drives quite a bit. We were checking out the new HARMONS grocery down in Sandy. They got a teaching kitchen, gelato stand… It’s pretty hip.
Anyways – they do gas up to $.20 off and it’s up to 20 gallons. Let me explain some:
We bought $150 in groceries at HARMONS which we would have spent at SMITH’s anyhow. Plus their produce was WAY better. This gave us the $.20 off per gallon. We thought we might as well fill ‘er up.
Octane 88 (mid grade) was $4.25 at the listed price… so the discount helped a lot.
But the very best part was even after using the gas coupon for 10.3 gallons, with my card rcpt printed out another coupon for the balance. I can still get $.20 off another 9.7 gallons!! And it’s good for up to 1 month after we bought our groceries.

SMITH’s may have to learn to compete.

Hmmm… So Anon O. Mouse (posting the comment from work on a Sunday no less!) says that they spent $150 in groceries (and gelato) to get $0.20 off per gallon of gas for up to 20 gallons… AND says that Smith’s may have to learn to compete? At that rate, I’m coming up with a whopping $4 saved in gas if you use the full 20 gallon limit. The produce may be better, and they may have gelato, but you’d need to do that deal 7.5 more times to get the same savings from Smith’s. And thats just to match Smiths’ offer of a free $30 just for buying a $300 gift card… not to mention the $0.15 off per gallon. Too bad the deal is gone at Smith’s – ended July 31st. I’ll be sure to notify you all (including Anon O. Mouse) if they start it back up again.
