Creative Advertising
I HATE door to door salespeople. If someone shows up at my door without warning trying to sell me something stupid, 100% of the time I will not buy – and I’m sure I’m not the only one out there! What kind of cop out is that anyway? The value of your time walking door to door, getting doors shut in your face, could have been better spent coming up with a creative advertisement. That is what the whole advertising industry is about, isn’t it? About bringing a potential buyer to you?
What if the product or service they are selling isn’t “Stupid”? They still don’t have a chance at my house. Even if it is a product or service I am interested in, their “coupons” are often priced too-good-to-be-true if you read the fine print. There was a time years ago that I was suckered into a “coupon” sheet for a pizza joint (who doesn’t love pizza, right?) that had just opened up down the road from my house. I’m not sure how the pizza even tastes there, we still haven’t been and no longer have those coupons… I’ve learned my lesson.
From the advertising and marketing work that I see in my company, I just can’t give any respect to these people that walk house to house, bugging people at their own front doors. Is it any better for those telemarketers that call you during dinner? I don’t think so…
Put your efforts into something more creative guys, and you might get a sale.
I’ve said it before, but now really is the time that we will start seeing more creative ways of advertising from companies that are struggling because of the economy. I just know some “bill gates” is out there right now tinkering in his/her garage with something that will change our lives for the better. Is it you?
